For the past two years the PSP camp has asked us to run a day of Aikido for their summer camp martial arts week. It is always fun to introduce new people to Yoshinkan Aikido and last year we got a few students who lasted the year from it. We are always willing to spread the love for the art. Read about it here on page 9.

How to Tie Your Belt
How to Tie Your Belt:
Many juniors don’t know how to tie their belt, and that is OK. I have collected a few videos to help you learn to tie your belt. Each Junior is expected to practice and to learn to tie their own belt. Eventually, when you reach the higher ranks it will be expected that you help the lower ranks learn to tie their belts too. So it is good to learn how to do this from the other side.
There are many ways to tie a belt, and we don’t want to be too picky, but choose a way that works for you. Some are easier to tie, but may come undone during class, others are harder to tie, but will stay put. Some of these videos are from other styles, but don’t worry, they are still valid for Yoshinkan Aikido.
First, the most simple way to tie your belt. It is easy to do, but may come undone during class.
The following example is how Sensei Geoff likes to tie belts, it is relatively easy to learn and the belt stays in place for the whole class. (If you have Re helping you in class, this is how she ties it too)
This next video is how Sensei Jim likes to tie belts. It is super secure and lays flat, it is great under a hakama and looks very pretty. It is a little tricky to learn but once you do, it is easy.
Lastly, pay attention to the last video in how he wraps his belt. You don’t want your belt to cross on the back, for smaller bodies this can cause uncomfort during rolls. You always want the belt on your back to be FLAT.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need some in person help.
